Guardrails and testing

An agent that takes real actions needs limits on what it can do, confirmation steps for anything irreversible, and thorough testing against edge cases before it touches production data.

Ongoing monitoring

Unlike a static app, an agent’s behavior can drift as models update or edge cases appear in production. Budget for monitoring and iteration, not just the initial build.

Realistic ranges

A narrow, single-purpose agent is a modest project. A multi-tool agent handling several business processes with proper guardrails is a significantly larger undertaking. Anyone quoting a flat, low price without asking what tools it needs to touch is probably underscoping it.
